Sayen Home and Gardens in Hamilton

By Rich Miller - February 12, 2025

Sayen Gardens is a 30-acre park filled with flowers and scenic creeks and ponds, and a great place to take a nature break. It’s natural beauty and well manicured grounds make it a favorite spot for both hikers and photographers.

Sayen Gardens is located in Hamilton Township, just a short drive from Princeton, Trenton and major highways. It’s the former home of Frederick Sayen, who operated a local rubber factory and was also an avid gardener and world traveler. He built a bungalow-style home in Hamilton Square In 1912 and surrounded it with plants and flowers acquired in his world travels. The Sayen House is a popular venue for wedding receptions and private events,

The gardens includes species from China, Japan, and England, many of which are still flourishing today. Sayen Gardens is renowned for its azaleas- more than 1,000 -, and holds an Azalea Festival each May around Mother’s Day. During the spring you’ll find gorgeous display of color and beauty with more than 250,000 flowering bulbs, as well as dogwoods and rhododendrons.

These flowers and trees highlight the many walking trails, fish ponds, and gazebos on the grounds. Sayen Gardens is a favorite spot for photographers in Mercer County, and popular for engagement photos and family photos.

Our favorite spot at Sayen Gardens is the Koi Pond, which features a fountain, bridge and lush foliage and is just a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature for a few minutes.
