Walking through a field of sunflowers is an amazing experience. In this video, we bring you inside a massive field of sunflowers at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley, Pa., accompanied by relaxing piano music.
It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon, highlighting the beauty of the sunflowers all around us. Fun fact: Young sunflowers orient themselves in the direction of the sun, and track the sun as as it moves across the sky from east to west – a behavior known as heliotropism. When sunflowers reach full maturity they no longer follow the sun, and continuously face east, which allows rapid warming in the morning and an increase in pollinator visits.
Bees are among the many pollinators that love sunflowers, as you can see in our video. A 2023 study found that sunflower pollen helps suppress intestinal infections in bumblebees.
