At Nature Break we feature nature beautiful experiences that fit into your busy day. A great example is Dingmans Falls, which is one of the most family friendly waterfalls that you can visit, and accessible for everyone from small children to seniors.

Dingmans Falls is located just off Route 209 in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area which covers more than 67,000 acres of beautiful nature along the Delaware River. There’s a visitor center maintained by the National Park Service, which also serves as the trailhead for the Dingmans Creek Trail. There are signs to mark the trail entrance and offer info about the hike ahead, which isn’t long at all.
The trail to the main falls is just over a quarter mile in length, and consists of smooth boardwalk paths that are perfect for either strollers or wheelchairs. There are handrails, as well as benches for resting in several areas, which also provides a nice opportunity to take in the two spectacular waterfalls you’ll encounter along this short walk, Silverthread Falls and Dingman’s Falls.
Silverthread Falls is about 80 feet in height, and has carved a narrow path through the rock, dropping over several tiers along the way. There are several nearby benches where you can relax and appreciate the falls.
Once you’re done enjoying Silverthread Falls, the boardwalk continues for another 300 yards or so to the base of Dingmans Falls which is the second highest waterfall in Pennsylvania with a total height of 130 feet. And it is a grand waterfall indeed! There are steep wooden stairs that allow hikers to climb about 150 yards to ae fenced viewing area at the very top of Dingmans Falls. This section is not accessible to wheelchairs and is not recommended for visitors with mobility concerns.
It’s best visit during the spring, summer or fall. The road to the Dingmans Falls Visitor Center is closed to traffic during winter months, but you can walk from the main road if you’re up for the 1-mile hike. You check the National Park Service website for the latest information on closures affecting the road to the road and the visitors center.
